thursday night, a bunch of us went to find this bar our studio professor had told us students from last semester liked a lot. it was this tiny little place down by the port. we got there at a good time because they had a little room downstairs which was empty so all of us could hang out together. it was a nice change from the usual oc café we go to every week. we had heard all about how it had glass floors so you could see the water below. rich was fascinated…
on saturday a lot of people went up the mountain to see the forts. me and three others walked down to the port since it was so nice. our plan was to sit and sketch…but when we got there we saw a huge pirate ship and we just had to go on it!
we got gelato at a café and wandered around town for a little bit. it started getting cold as soon as the sun went down, so we made the trek back uphill to the villa.
when we got back, a couple people had set up this game in the garden. basically you try to knock the empty bottle off of the stick with the frisbee. there’s all kinds of rules but it was really fun and we played until nate’s beef stroganoff was ready! (on the weekends, we’re on our own for meals…lucky for me my friends here love to cook. sunday night they made chinese food!) oh big villa news- angela, our cook, is retiring! her last day is friday! she’s been training a new woman, christina. she’s younger, doesn’t speak a word of english, but makes awesome desserts for us :)
this is a rough week for us. we had a studio pin up today and we have a midterm in italian rationalism on friday where we have to write essays on hundreds of pages that no one has started until a week ago…oops.
aside from two nights of almost no sleep, the studio critique went well today. i didn’t take any pictures this time, but here are some from our first pin up, and it looked pretty much the same today.
as much as this week stinks, everyone is excited. on friday we leave for a nine day trip of independent travel. here’s the plan: cologne, prague, newcastle and gateshead (lady gaga concert!!), edinburgh then back to genoa. it’s going to be sweet!! get ready for a long post in a week and a half ;)
